The West Coast Eagles continue to support quality education outcomes in schools across the state, with the Community and Game Development department delivering education programs across every region in Western Australia in 2019.

This significant investment in education saw the team, made up of qualified teachers as well as past and present AFL players, travel over 100,000 kilometres and visit more than 500 schools throughout the year.

The ongoing state-wide delivery of the Eagles Rock My School (primary school) and Eagle Insight (secondary school) programs has been more recently complemented by a range of specialist programs with a more intensive focus on education outcomes.

The Aboriginal Leadership Program, delivered to nine schools in 2019, focuses on building cultural identity and developing leadership with a particular focus on reconciliation.

School-based workshops culminate with the annual Waalitj Cup – an interschool carnival rewarding students for their participation and commitment to the program with an opportunity to play at Mineral Resources Park.

In response to an identified requisite for skills in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), the Eagles Edge (STEM) program was piloted at two schools in 2019. The program utilises technology to measure a range of components of fitness, and then supports students to build a program guided by sports science principles to achieve personalised goals.

Another exciting new specialist program introduced for the first time in 2019 is the West Coast Eagles All Stars program, which provides inclusive education and skill development to students with special needs.

Students in remote communities didn’t miss out on the action, with a new video-conferencing initiative – Eagles in the Air – connecting AFL players with remote schools across the state to discuss and explore concepts such as leadership, goal setting, resilience and wellbeing.

With the 2020 school year commencing recently, now is the perfect time for teachers to find out more on our suite of programs by visiting https://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/community/schools-and-education or watching our latest Eagles Education videos.
