In the toughest of times you find out who your friends are, and the West Coast Eagles have been overwhelmed by the level of support it has received this season
The Eagles today cracked the 100,000 membership barrier for the first time.
Despite an extremely difficult time for all Australians and others around the world, the Eagles’ membership grew from 91,747 in 2019 to today’s figure of over 100,000.
The Eagles have become the second club in the southern hemisphere to break the six-figure membership barrier, behind Richmond who have surpassed that number in each of the last three years.
West Coast has achieved that milestone despite limited opportunities to attend matches at Optus Stadium and the club being based in a Queensland hub for the second time this year.
“As a club it is a very humbling experience to achieve that target in this climate,” Chief Executive Officer Trevor Nisbett said today.
“To have that level of support is overwhelming and I know coach Adam Simpson and his players really appreciate having such outstanding support behind them.
“Our fans have again shown their unwavering support, something they have demonstrated for decades and we really appreciate their commitment to our club.
“This has obviously been a challenging year for everyone and our club has not been immune to the financial impact created by COVID-19, but the support of our members has helped us to minimise the damage and we are truly grateful for that.
“Knowing that more than 100,000 members and many more hundreds of thousands of fans have our backs is very reassuring and we truly thank all of those people for being so dedicated to the football club.”
