The RAC Derby is back this weekend, with a twist.

For the first time in history, the clubs will face off in a ‘double Derby’, with the women showcasing their side at Optus Stadium in a match-up before the men.

The girls and West Coast Eagles AFLW coach Daniel Pratt, are keen to face off in their second Derby of the season, after narrowly falling short in round two.

The final score sat at 23 (2.11) to 14 (2.2), in wild weather, which saw teams take the ball to ground in a fiercely-contested game.

“They’re excited to play Freo again at Optus,” Pratt said.

“I think everyone in Western Australia loves a Derby, and it’s going to be the third one in a week with the men playing last week, so it’s an exciting time for everyone.”

The girls are expected to play in front of a large crowd, with many set for their first game on the hallowed turf, but this doesn’t faze Pratt, who believes it’s only the beginning.

“In the next five to 10 years, you think the girls will be playing in front of similar crowds.” Pratt said.

“If we get what we want in the future, that’s what they’re going to play in front of this weekend.

“So, if there’s 20 to 30 thousand there then that would be a great outcome for the girls.”

And, after notching up a win on the board last weekend, the side is looking dangerous for the Derby.

The Dockers will also be coming off their first loss of the season against the Brisbane Lions, 14 (1.8) to 25 (3.7).

Yet, Pratt remains level-headed.

“They’re pretty consistent, our girls, with where they’re at, we’re (still) in a learning and development phase," Pratt said.

But Fremantle Dockers AFLW Coach Trent Cooper had nothing but praise for the West Coast outfit, respecting the Eagles as a brave opponent.

“The Eagles played a really strong brand of footy last time and we had to fight our way through it ... this week the weather should be great in front of a great crowd in a great stadium so everyone should be really excited.” Cooper said.

And with the potential addition of Irish midfielder Aisling McCarthy the Eagles are looking for all hands on deck this Sunday.

“I think we’re going to get McCarthy back, which will be nice, it’s just been one of those years for us where we lose one or two soldiers each week,” Pratt said.

“So, we’re just trying to build that depth back up again for the rest of the year.”
