West Coast Eagles captain Luke Shuey ticked the final box of his return to play plan when he shone in a short, sharp session at Mineral Resources Park today.

Shuey is expected to be named in the line-up to play Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium tomorrow night when the team is released later today.

The second-year skipper has missed the opening two rounds after straining his hamstring in match simulation in the break between official pre-season matches and the start of the 2021 campaign proper.

He looked close to playing last week and at this morning’s captain’s run was slick and agile as he did all that was required to get the final tick of approval.

Midfield bull Elliot Yeo worked hard with the WAFL contingent in their captain’s run which was held a little earlier than those preparing for AFL battle.

The captain’s run is usually limited to a few short, sharp drills before the players break into their respective line groups and complete the session with a few exercises specific to their zone.

The players were upbeat and appear ready for the next momentous challenge against one of the early premiership favourites tomorrow night.
