West Coast Eagles captain Luke Shuey faces an extended period on the sidelines after this morning having surgery on a damaged left hamstring tendon.

The dynamic Eagles midfielder, one of the best afield in last Saturday night’s victory against Port Adelaide, suffered the latest in a run of soft-tissue injuries deep into the last quarter of that game.

After examining the issue this week and consulting surgeons yesterday, Shuey underwent tendon repair surgery this morning.

“Whilst disappointing for Luke and the club, the surgery is an important first step in Luke’s recovery and there is still plenty of football to played this year,” General Manager, Football, Craig Vozzo said today.

“We cannot put a time line on his return at this stage, but we expect it will be after the mid-season bye.”

The Eagles' bye is scheduled for round 13.
