Two players involved in one of the iconic passages of play in West Coast Eagles history have committed to club by signing new deals.

Forward Liam Ryan and midfielder Dom Sheed finished off the premiership-winning play in the 2018 Grand Final that helped to secure the Eagles fourth flag. Now they aim to build on their contribution, both extending their contracts.

Eagles fans will never forget that passage of play in the dying minutes that started with Jeremy McGovern taking a strong contested mark deep in defence. He then delivered to ruckman Nathan Vardy who pumped the ball long, just forward of the wing.

Ryan then did what he does best, took a spectacular grab, landed like a cat and played on. He sent the ball to half-forward where Sheed marked just inside the boundary, about 35 metres from goal.

The lithe left-footer then kicked an arrow that split the middle and put the Eagles in front by four points with 1min 45sec to play.

Both Ryan and Sheed are in the relative early stages of their careers and West Coast Eagles General Manager – Football, Craig Vozzo, said it was pleasing to lock in two key players in the future of the club.

“Both Liam and Dom have already been strong contributors to our club,” Vozzo said.  “Liam is only 24 and Dom is 26 so they have plenty of football ahead of them.

“We still think they have improvement in them and we are excited by what they can offer over both the short and long term.”
