Full-back Tom Barrass is set to miss multiple weeks after suffering a hamstring strain late in West Coast’s defeat against North Melbourne.

In a week of mixed news on the injury front, the Eagles are hopeful Jarrod Brander (back) and Alex Witherden (groin) will be available to face Adelaide on Sunday.

However, utility Brendon Ah Chee is also set for a stint on the sidelines after fracturing his hand against the Roos, and youngster Zane Trew will also miss several weeks with a slight hamstring complaint suffered in the WAFL.

Souring the tough loss to North, Barrass was injured in the last quarter and is likely to miss two-to-three weeks.

“With about 30 seconds to go ‘TB’ unfortunately strained his hamstring. We’ll follow the usual hamstring rehab for ‘TB’,” physiotherapist Mark Finucane told westcoasteagles.com.au.

The prognosis is not as positive for Ah Chee, who will undergo surgery on Wednesday evening and is set to miss around six weeks.

“Unfortunately Brendon has sustained a fracture in his hand and he’s having surgery on that later today actually, so he will miss a few weeks with that as we let the bone knit,” Finucane said.

Brander injured his back on the training track last week but, like Witherden, he has made encouraging progress recently.

“Jarrod unfortunately jarred his back in training but it was only two days before the game, so not enough time for it to settle down, but it has over the course of this week and looking good for this weekend,” Finucane said.

“With Alex it’s something that he’s going to have to manage but he’s settled down quite well in response to treatment over this last week and he’ll be a test later in the week.”

Emerging midfielder Trew joins fellow youngster Will Collins on the sidelines with a hamstring complaint, but both are expected back in action sooner rather than later.

“Zane unfortunately suffered a minor hamstring strain in the WAFL on the weekend. Again, a young player, so we’ll take him through his full rehabilitation for that,” Finucane said.
