West Coast showed some spirit and fight but went down to Hawthorn by 50 points at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
The Hawks, who had lost to Port Adelaide and Geelong through the past two rounds, overcame inaccurate early kicking to triumph 18.16 (124) to 11.8 (74).
West Coast coach Andrew McQualter moved the magnets to start the match, with gun defender Brady Hough starting in the midfield and co-captain Oscar Allen playing down back on his return.
Some wayward shots kept the Eagles within touch early - after Hawthorn booted 2.8 for the term to only lead by seven points at the first change - and alarm bells were ringing when the Hawks piled on seven goals to two in the second stanza.
But, to their credit, the Eagles lifted after half-time and improved around clearances to regain a toehold in the match.
West Coast was winning the third term before Jack Gunston goaled in the dying seconds, and went on the attack late in the final term, conceding some late majors as the score blew out.
There were positive signs in periods, with Hough among them as he finished with 23 disposals in his first full match in the engine room.
Harley Reid produced a strong second half with 16 disposals and two majors playing through the middle and in attack, while Liam Ryan worked hard to finish with three goals.
Jack Hutchinson continued to display his unwavering commitment to the contest, ending with 19 disposals and seven tackles.
Champion defender Jeremy McGovern was a pillar throughout with 17 disposals and seven marks, while Liam Baker (24 disposals) never stopped trying and Ryan Maric had some damaging moments by foot.
Mabior Chol (three goals, nine marks, 17 disposals) was a thorn in the Eagles' side throughout, with Gunston kicking four goals, while Josh Battle (29 disposals) won plenty of ball down back.
The Eagles return home to face Melbourne and in search of their first win on Saturday night at Optus Stadium.
