The West Coast Eagles are set to open their 2022 campaign at home in a round one rematch against the Gold Coast Suns set for Sunday, March 20.

For the third year in a row, the Eagles will take centre stage at Optus Stadium for their season-opener, with bouncedown locked in for 4.40pm (AWST).

West Coast will be aiming to get the season off to another positive start at home, following round one victories over Melbourne in 2020 and over the Suns last year.

The Eagles had to dig deep to overcome Gold Coast’s talented outfit last March, coming from one-point behind at the final change and surging to a 25-point triumph.

Next year’s season-opener could be the first time recruit Sam Petrevski-Seton steps out in the blue and gold following his trade from Carlton, and could also herald the return of Willie Rioli following two full seasons out of the game.

Key defender Tom Barrass is also in line to play his 100th career match in round one.

West Coast has won 10 games against the Suns since 2011, losing twice and drawing once in 2015.

The Eagles have won all three clashes between the clubs at Optus Stadium by an average margin of 43 points.

Further fixture details will be released by the AFL next week.
