The WAFL Eagles had an inspiring 58-point win over Subiaco on Saturday morning, navigating through breezy conditions at Leederville Oval.

The team was bolstered by a dozen AFL listed players, who slotted in well with the side and played important roles in the 17.21 (123) v 10.5 (65) victory.

Jack Williams impressed as a tall target inside 50, taking a number of strong marks in the forward line and slotting through three goals.

Clay Hall, Zane Trew and Andrew Gaff got a lot of the ball through the middle, while young Next Generation Academy product Coen Livingstone held his own in the ruck.

Harvey Johnston (two goals) and Loch Rawlinson (one) were both lively around the ground, and Coby Burgiel found himself a lot of the ball, especially in the second half.

Kye Barker (three goals), Rhett Lloyd (two) and Harley Sparks (one) were standouts, while new recruits Trey Ruscoe and Jason Gillbee played their roles well.

It was a tight contest for the first half, the two teams tied at quarter time, and West Coast trailing by just one point at the main break.

The Eagles’ turned up the heat in the third quarter, kicking seven goals to the Lions’ two, and setting themselves up for a strong finish.

West Coast kick off their 2024 campaign against Swan Districts on Saturday, March 30 at Steel Blue Oval, bounce down at 2:30pm.
