The WAFL Eagles were outplayed by a strong Claremont side, who controlled the game to notch a 6.9 (45) to 13.18 (96) victory.

Senior coach Kyal Horsley said, as was the case in round four, the match was evenly balanced aside from a 20-minute patch that proved costly.

“Claremont were able to turn it on at the back end of the second quarter and piled on five goals to take the game away from us.” Horsley said.

“To our players credit they responded after the break and were able to turn the second half into a real arm wrestle.

“But Claremont responded every time and we couldn’t make a dent in the margin.”

It was great to see ‘Grossy’ play with that burst and zip again. You could see the benefit of the bye from the opening bounce with the way he attacked the game and pounced on any loose balls around the contest. He caught the eye all game and finished with a game-high 18 contested possessions.

Noah Long

Noah’s determination and focus in the contest were evident, repeatedly working hard to generate turnovers. His relentless effort and the pace at which he executed his role were impressive.

Rhett was a rock down back. He led the way with a game-high five intercept marks to go with 30 disposals. He had a strong influence across the course of the game.

AFL Listed Players

Campbell Chesser

Campbell played on the wing and linked the ground well in both offence and defence. He had some plays where he got involved on multiple occasions and used his dash to great effect.

Campbell Chesser

Archer Reid

As a forward he was a victim of our ball movement on the day which made it hard for him to get into the game. When in the ruck he competed hard and his follow up was a highlight.

Callum Jamieson

Callum looked much sharper this week and was able to win or half his contest. He repelled many of Claremont’s attacks and his voice and leadership helped the team.

Harry Barnett

Harry played with a real aggression which allowed to him impact the game in multiple ways. He applied strong pressure with four tackles, complemented by some solid marks around the ground and a return of 1.1 on the scoreboard.

Harry Barnett

Coen Livingstone

Similar to Archer, where his impact as a forward was limited by our ball use up the ground. When in the ruck, he brought strong competitiveness.

Hamish Davis

Hamish split his time between forward and wing and worked extremely hard in both positions. Unfortunately, it was one of those games where the ball spent most time on the opposite side of the ground.

Loch Rawlinson

Loch worked extremely hard as a forward. He was able to link up through the middle of the ground and drive the ball inside 50 for us on multiple occasions while also helping defensively.

Loch Rawlinson

Harvey Johnston

It was good to see Harvey play with that real intensity and focus. He influenced the game across all areas and was unlucky not to be rewarded more often when he found space.

Malakai Champion

Malakai was a constant presence throughout the game. Dangerous in attack and crucial in defence, winning the ball back multiple times in our D50. A strong all-round performance.

Malakai Champion

Lucca Grego

He brought grit and determination to the contest and relished the game’s combative edge.
