Overcast conditions were a welcome change for the West Coast Eagles on Friday, coming off a couple of scorching 40-degree days earlier in the week.

The players commenced the session in usual fashion, starting with an in-depth warmup, followed by drills and then match simulation.

Batman returns

Harry ‘Batman’ Barnett participated in his first full training session, after completing his rehabilitation on a knee injury sustained at the back end of last year. He completed stints in the ruck during the match simulation and looked to be enjoying his time back out on the track.

T-Mac attack

Another session, another impressive display from Tom McCarthy. The 25-year-old’s speed and skill is a pleasure to watch, smoothly weaving in and out of contests, laying hard tackles and positioning himself perfectly around the ground. McCarthy was selected with pick no.1 in last year’s Mid-Season Rookie Draft, and while he has only been at the club for a short amount of time, his impact and future potential has been evident from the get-go.

CDT shapes up

Young Eagles draftee Cooper Duff-Tytler impressed during the match sim, holding his own in the ruck against experienced bigs such as Matt Flynn and Harry Barnett. His vertical leap is impressive, using his agility and aerial strength to get to the ball first on a number of occasions and tap it to advantage. While the 18-year-old is still fairly green, he is making positive strides and he settles into AFL life.

The Schoenberg Show

New recruit Harry Schoenberg has impressed since his arrival to the club, joining the blue and gold during the Supplemental Selection Period in November. He is a proven hard-working inside midfielder, with clean hands and ball use and great footy IQ. The 24-year-old excelled during today’s match sim, kicking two great goals and working well around the ground.

Moon boot no more

Jack Hutchinson is ticking off boxes with his rehabilitation, appearing on the sidelines without his moonboot for the first time since undergoing ankle surgery in December. Hutchinson will now enter into the next phase of his recovery with a strengthening program for his lower leg and some cross-training.

Hewett and Hough on hold

Midfielder Elijah Hewett came from the track during the warmup with calf tightness, after sustaining a cork to the area earlier in the week. Brady Hough was absent from today’s session as he recovers from illness.
