The West Coast Eagles have added exciting emerging talent Jake Miles‑Wrency to their squad, signing the 20‑year‑old as a Category B Rookie.
Standing at 199cm and boasting elite athletic traits, Miles‑Wrency arrives at the club after a sporting journey that has taken him from Brisbane to the United States and back again.
The former multi‑sport prospect represented Queensland in basketball at U16, U18 and U20 level before spending last year playing college basketball in Illinois.
Now, after returning home to pursue his AFL dream, he will re‑enter the football pathway for the first time in five years.
Miles‑Wrency said the opportunity to join West Coast meant a great deal after years of pursuing elite sport across two codes.
“It's been unreal. Getting the call from ‘Mini’ (Andrew McQualter) last week, it was so special and meant so much. It's been a dream ever since playing footy as a junior,” Miles-Wrency said.
“I've had some great experiences from playing basketball and look forward to using those skills to complement my footy.
“It's a great combination of an exciting young team with some highly experienced guys and an amazing coaching staff that I can't wait to learn from.
“I'm very grateful and excited to get over and get started.”
Despite his time away from the game, Miles‑Wrency is no stranger to football success.
As a junior, he claimed the Jason Akermanis Medal as best player at the Queensland U14 State Championships, an honour previously awarded to top AFL talent including Jed Walter (Gold Coast Suns) and Will Ashcroft (Brisbane Lions).
His athletic profile remains a standout, with his 20m sprint time of 2.92 seconds matching that of fellow explosive Eagles youngster Cooper Duff‑Tytler.
West Coast Head of List Management and Recruiting Matt Clarke said the club was thrilled to secure Miles‑Wrency after an impressive trial period.
“We are really excited to add someone of Jake’s athletic capabilities and his football skills during our trials really started to shine,” Clarke said.
“He is a very eager learner and driven character who is keen to get started.
“Jake has the athletic profile to play at either end of the ground, and the coaches are eager to see where he develops best.
“We are looking forward to Jake joining us very soon and integrating into our football program.”
