Key defender Harry Edwards is tracking well through concussion protocols and will be a test for Sunday’s clash against North Melbourne at Optus Stadium.
Edwards is a good chance to return to bolster West Coast’s backline for the team’s first home game of the season, while co-captain Liam Baker and Harry Schoenberg will be available following suspension.
“Harry will be in full training this week with the plan to be available for selection,” High Performance Manager Phil Merriman said.
A quartet of Eagles are closing in on returns to play, with Elijah Hewett (quad), Tom Gross (hamstring), Sandy Brock (ankle) and Jack Williams (calf) listed as one week away.
“Elijah had some quad soreness late last week and wasn’t able to complete Tuesday’s session. Scans showed a small strain, so he’ll miss this week and likely be available round three,” Merriman said.
“Tom will be close to full training this week. He’s attacked his reconditioning in a really professional manner.
“Jack picked up a small calf strain, which will keep him out of action for this week. We’re hopeful he’ll be back out training and available next week.
“Sandy went over on his ankle during training last week. It was a moderate grade injury and he will be aiming to be available for round three.”
Recruit Brandon Starcevich continues to progress through his calf rehabilitation and is building his training loads.
“Brandon is tracking steadily. His running progressions are underway, and he will begin a small block of work prior to returning and will be building into football over the next week,” Merriman said.
“Given he has had an inconsistent build into the season, we will make sure we set him up for the season ahead.”
Emerging midfielder Jack Hutchinson (ankle) is tracking well as he continues his rehabilitation, while draftee Fred Rodriguez (foot) is also five-to-seven weeks away.
“It’s pleasing to see Jack running well over the past two weeks, and he’ll progress into some drills this week,” Merriman said.
“Fred has been building his running volumes nicely and has just started his off‑line work.”
Fellow draftee Sam Allen continues to build towards the end stages of his knee rehabilitation.
“Sam is continuing his build in training and will move through a sequence of end‑stage testing, which we hope progresses him into the final phase of his rehab,” Merriman said.
Forward Tyler Brockman has undergone a further procedure which will keep him sidelined for six weeks, while Noah Long has also undergone surgery on his season-ending knee injury.
“Unfortunately, Tyler needed another procedure to clear out an infection in his knee,” Merriman said.
“Noah had surgery on Monday, and all went well. He’ll take the next few weeks to recover before beginning his journey back.”
