The West Coast Eagles key defender Reuben Ginbey will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2026 season as he continues his recovery from a quad injury.

Ginbey had been progressing well through his rehabilitation and was keen to push for a return before the end of the year, however the club has opted to prioritise ensuring he enters the off-season in the best possible shape.

“Reuben and our medical staff have made the decision to not push for a return this season,” High Performance Manager Phil Merriman said.

“Although Reuben was incredibly keen to return, he wants to make sure he has a great off-season which will then set him up for the pre-season.”

Draftee Sam Allen has also been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after careful consideration from the club's medical team.

“Sam and the medical team have decided that the risk is too great to return this year,” Merriman said.

“As hard a decision as this was for Sam and the team, it is certainly the right decision to set him up for a successful return from day one of pre-season.”

After being managed for the Western Derby, Jack Graham is expected to return this weekend.

“We managed Jack last week with some ongoing soreness, which has been of benefit for him this week.  He got through training today and expect him to be available this week,” Merriman said.

Small forward Malakai Champion is expected to be available for selection this week after overcoming a hand injury.

“Malakai was very close to playing last week,” Merriman said.

“He will train fully this week and will more than likely put his hand up for selection.”

Oliver Francou is facing a short period on the sidelines after suffering a knee laceration during Friday night's Western Derby clash.

“Obviously a pretty disturbing injury on Friday night, however the prognosis for this injury is pretty favourable,” Merriman said.

“Thankfully nothing structural was damaged, so his wound was washed out and cleaned over the weekend, and we will wait for it to heal before he returns to training and play.”

Jack Hutchinson remains on track to return before the end of the season despite suffering a hamstring injury against Brisbane in round 19.

“Jack has reached 80% running speed and will continue to integrate back into the main group,” Merriman said.
