His debut match might only have lasted slightly more than one quarter but emerging defender Harry Edwards looked the part against Geelong, according to teammate Elliot Yeo.

Edwards was in the thick of the action early, picking up three touches and helping repel the surging Cats’ attacking forays during an intense contest.

But with 12 minutes to go in the second term his night was over prematurely after he courageously attacked a high ball and was collected in a friendly fire incident by Brad Sheppard’s hip.

Edwards made an appearance on the training track at Mineral Resources Park during Tuesday’s light session and will continue to be monitored this week before his availability is determined for Sunday’s clash with Carlton.

“As far as I’m aware everything’s all good on that end,” Yeo told 96FM.

“It’s just whether or not for team balance, team harmony, ‘Simmo’ (coach Adam Simpson) gives him the nod again, or whether they take it very cautiously just in case.

“But he’s bouncing around the club at the moment, he’s pretty happy.

“He was playing some really good football as well. For his first game, he was looking like he was up to it as well.

“That’s a really exciting prospect coming through.”

Senior Eagles Jeremy McGovern (thumb) and Jack Redden (quad) are also facing tests this week before the Blues clash as West Coast guns for six-straight triumphs.

Yeo was in good spirits at training on Monday in the wet, getting the body moving again after the bruising Cats clash less than 48 hours earlier.

The eight-day break between games has been a boost for West Coast, however a condensed fixture is possible when the next block of matches is released.

“It felt like finals-type footy really and I pulled up pretty sore from it and a few of the boys did as well. But having that eight-day break now that’s helped recover for sure,” Yeo said.

“We’ll take it. Swings and roundabouts as well with the fixturing.

“At the moment, we’re pretty lucky in terms of getting good spacing between games.

“It will be more towards the back end of the season and if we go into another hub, or if teams come over here it will be a bit more condensed and we’ll have our turn at it.”
