Mitch Duncan is the latest addition to West Coast’s coaching panel, returning home to Western Australia and bringing valuable experience ahead of the 2026 AFL season.

A dual premiership player and 305-game veteran with Geelong, Duncan joins the Eagles as backline coach following his retirement from AFL football.

Duncan joins new midfield assistant coach Sam Radford in a refreshed coaching group under second-year senior coach Andrew McQualter.

“Mitch is a fantastic addition to our coaching team and a great fit for the direction we’re heading as a football club,” General Manager Football Gavin Bell said.

“His experience and calm, thoughtful approach will connect strongly with our developing playing group.

“Mitch’s ability to mentor and build meaningful relationships, combined with his leadership, will be valuable as we strive for progress in 2026 and beyond.”

A highly respected figure in the game, Duncan brings a wealth of experience, leadership and football IQ to West Coast.

The 34-year-old finished in the top 10 of Geelong’s best-and-fairest count seven times during his decorated career and featured in finals in 12 of his 16 seasons.

The move marks a return home for Duncan, who was originally drafted from East Perth in 2009.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to join the West Coast Eagles and be part of an exciting new chapter for the Club,” Duncan said.

“I’m really looking forward to working with a talented playing group and contributing to their development. There’s optimism around the direction the Club is heading, and I’m keen to get started and help drive that growth.

“I’m excited to work under Andrew McQualter and continue expanding my own coaching journey. It’s great to be back home in WA and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

“It’ll be a challenge convincing my kids to swap their Geelong colours for blue and gold, but I’m sure they’ll come around!”
