Dom Sheed along with Community and Game Development staff Bradd Dalziell and Janelle Marangon, visited Kalgoorlie and Kambalda to promote education, health, participation, and positive lifestyle messages with the underlying objective of empowering youth to tackle challenges with confidence.

After a smooth flight out of Perth, the team was on the road ready to begin a busy day of school and junior football club visits. The first engagement was at Kambalda Primary School where the Eagles trio and special guest Rick the Rock Eagle, were greeted by 70 enthusiastic students who were actively engaged in discussions about well-being and striving to achieve your best.

120 primary school students at Kambalda West District High School were next to receive a visit, with Sheed and Rick the Rock again proved crowd pleasers, utilising humour and fun to complement the delivery of important active lifestyle messages.

The team also presented the SOAR Wellbeing Series for Youth Girls to the female high school cohort, with the girls participating in an interactive workshop focused on nutrition and recovery, where Sheed was able to provide specific insights into these practices at the elite level.

As a result of the unprecedented rain for the region, the planned lunch time kick-to-kick was adjusted, and Sheed assumed the title as the four-square king, while the Eagles staff interacted in a range of activities. After Sheed finished signing anything from posters to lunch boxes, lunch time quickly passed, and the team headed into the classroom for a final session.

The senior male students at the school were lined up ahead of time and ready for their Eagle Insight presentation. Students enjoyed the delivery of a leadership and culture module focusing on how we can all extend our leadership capabilities.

Sheed’s ability to provide first-hand examples of the leaders in his life and the culture at the West Coast Eagles, had the boys hanging on his every word.

The team headed back to Kalgoorlie to visit the local junior football clubs training, two of which Sheed played for throughout his junior career.

Guided by President of the Goldfields Football League Juniors Brent Gouge, Sheed shared his experiences with players, coaches and volunteers at Kalgoorlie City Football Club, Saints Junior Football Club and Mines Rovers Football Club.

The West Coast Eagles acknowledge and appreciate the support of Youth Engagement Partner BHP to enable this visit to the Goldfields region - specifically the communities of Kalgoorlie and Kambalda – and look forward to extending the club’s connection to these communities as part of its regional expansion across WA.
